Our Dragon Trophy

On July 4th and 5th, 2008 saw hundreds of people come to enjoy the festivities in the Second Annual Dragon Boat Festival held in the City of Temiskaming Shores, Ontario. Presented by the New Liskeard Lions Club, the City of Temiskaming Shores, and the Chinese Heritage Association of Northern Ontario, this year's race saw 13 teams—286 paddlers and drummers—paddling in the beautiful blue waters of Lake Temiskaming. Although Dragon Boat racing is relatively new to Temiskaming Shores, we are basing our Festival on a proven model that has been fun and successful in other Northern Ontario centers. The combination of excersise, festivity and community spirit is very attactive. The Festival ran on July 4th, and 5th, 2008 at the New Liskeard Beach Park. The opening ceremonies and social were on Friday evening (4th). The races ran Saturday morning and afternoon. Awards immediately followed the races. Total times for three races are on the 2008 Festival Page, as well as some photos taken at the event.

Each Dragon Boat is approximately 13 meters long and holds a crew of 22 people. The race course parallels the beach. The race course is 400 meters long, and involves up to four boats. Each crew is encouraged to provide a steersperson and drummer. All entries were involved in 3 races.
