Catch the Spirit of the Dragon
In June 2012, the New Liskeard Lions Club will present the Seventh Annual Dragon Boat Festival. Previous years have built a momentum that makes this an attractive festival for families and visitors from the region, and from well outside the region.
In this Year of the Dragon, we feel it is time to out-perform past years. Our supported charities this year are the Temiskaming Hospital Foundation, the Diabetes Program-Temikaming, and the New Liskeard Lions Club Inc. In the past six years our modest event has generated over $52,000 for local charities as well as having exciting days at the beach.
This year we are making a special effort to elicit your support. You can sponsor the Festival on a number of levels, you can discover the team building that comes from your staff participating as part of a dragon boat team, you can support the fund raising for team members. All of these methods can showcase your business in a positive new light.
We ask that you take a few minutes to mark July 6th on your calendar, and decide how best to participate in this year's Festival.

While dragon boat racing has its roots in Chinese tradition, these festivals have come to be celebrations reflecting Canada's multicultural heritage. They create a friendly yet competitive atmosphere for participants to match their abilities and test their skills in dragon boat racing. The fundamental objective of a Dragon Boat Festival is to strengthen community spirit. It also galvanizes its citizens to demonstrate their organizational talent and resources in hosting a major recreational and cultural event.
The event presents an opportunity for our citizens to actively participate in a major recreational and cultural event that will make us all proud.
The Committee's goal is to reflect a strong, vibrant and healthy community. This festival will attract many visitors to our city, especially from other Northern Ontario communities such as Sudbury, North Bay, Timmins, Sault Ste. Marie and Parry Sound. This will promote a greater awareness of the City of Temiskaming Shores, as well as the coming together and support of our civic leaders, governments, businesses, sponsors, donors, volunteers and participants in making the New Liskeard Lions Dragon Boat Race and Festival a successful community event.
